River Umia - Palm Trees - Hot spring - "Malecón"
Since Caldas became a Thermal Resort, the importance of tourism has been a determining factor for its development up to now. Caldas tourist posibilities are enormous:
In the central area of the village, we can pointed up the "Garden", with a wide variety of tree species, together inth a "Carballeira" (it is also called "Feira") with many centenary oaks. All this is situated on the banks of River Umia. We also have the old Red Street, with some of its noble emblazoned houses, the roman bridge over Bermaña river, St. Thomas church and its setting: Palm-Trees park (where it is placed the tourism office, although it is now placed in the Tafona) and a park for childrem called "A Plazuela".
In the parishes (surroundings of the village) you can walk along paths and discovered some country houses, churches and a great variety of natural spots with their rural ways of living.
Other choices are the nearest hills, such as Xiabre (640 m.), from which you can see the Salnes Valley and Arosa Estuary, or St. Mary hill where you can watch the village from, the river (including the waterfull), remains of an old hydroelectric central and old watermills.
Setting off the village and making use of its routes out of the municipality can be established privileged situation:
Wine route: Portas, Lantaño, Vilanoviña, Ribadumia, Barrantes and Cambados. We can show up White Albariño and Red Caiño, which are new and sweet-scented wines.
Beach route: There are many and very good beachs and excelent shelllfish. Near Vilagarcía is Lobeira Hill, with beautiful views. You are obliged to visit places on the coast, such O Grove, Toxa Island, Arousa Island, Portonovo, Sanxenxo and Vilagarcía. All of them have wonderful beaches but the most wonderful one is A Lanzada, with a natural setting which is worth seeing.
Barbanza route: It's on the north coast of Arousa estuary: from Carracedo we go off to Catoira, Rianxo, Boiro, A Póvoa and the dunes in Corrubedo are the most outstanding places in this route.
Santiago route: University city, political and administrative capital of Galicia and centre of pilgrimage. The Cathedral and the (old) historical and artistic part together sith an atmosphere ideal for leisure.
"Petroglifos" route: Following the course of River Umia to A Estrada we can look at Segade and its waterfall and them going off to Campo Lameiro where you can find the prehistoric engravings.
"Morrazo" route: It is a peninsula situated between the estuaries of Pontevedra and Vigo. The route can include Marín, Bueu, Cangas and Moaña, where there are many beaches. Vigo is on the other side of the estuary and Cíes Islands are at the month of it.
